These two antique cities Xantos, Lycia's capital city and Letoon with their ruins, mosaics, temples, monuments and amphitheatre remind you that life stopped here some thousands of years ago. The Leeton temple centre was constructed for Leto, mother of Apollo. You can still see the sunbathing sea turtles carved on the columns of the temple. Patara has a shallow sea and a 18km beach which is one of the most beautiful sandy shores of the region. Patara was the important harbour and the important business centre in the ancient period and birthplace to the legend of Saint Nicholas.

Fethiye was known as Telmessos during the Classical Era and was a very important city bordering both Caria and Lycia two of the ancient Anatolian civilization and today Fethiye is a lovely harbour town with lovely views of the hills and surrounding the bay. On entering Kayaköy, The Ghost Town, you will be struck by the almost 4000 roofless stone houses that appear to have merged into the rocks on which they were built. Destroyed partly by nature and partly by human hands the buildings and churches stand still bound by the hush of many empty waiting years. The blue lagoon of Ölüdeniz -The Dead Sea - seems to deny its name as it welcomes you with turquoise coloured waters reflecting perfectly the shadow of the surrounding pine forest. It's lovely sandy beach makes this the most photographed of Turkey's beaches on the Lycian coast.
